Redarc RedVision Display Panel Upgrade and Towing Electronics Installation

Challenge

Many recreational vehicles and towing setups have outdated electrical controls, making it hard to monitor and manage accessories. Older display screens do not show all system information, so users must use several switches in different places. This setup makes it difficult to keep track of battery levels, water tanks, and lighting circuits simultaneously.

Another problem arises when towing heavy trailers if the brake controllers and screens are not properly installed. If a driver has to reach across the cabin to adjust the brake controller in an emergency, or strain to see a badly positioned rearview monitor, it can distract them and raise the risk of an accident.

Factory wiring at the trailer-hitch plug often wears out quickly due to dirt and water. This can cause power loss or even total signal failure to important trailer safety equipment.

Solution

Adding a modern central display and better-placed towing controls solves these monitoring and handling problems. By replacing old hardware with a single power management system, all switches, tank meters, and battery indicators are combined into one easy-to-use interface.

This installation uses specific solutions to improve monitoring and make towing safer:

• A modern central screen brings together various auxiliary controls into a single, easy-to-read colour display.
• A custom-made, powder-coated mounting frame moves the camper switches and heating dials into a neat, central cluster on the wall.
• A strong metal 12-pin trailer plug replaces weaker plastic ones, ensuring steady electrical flow for charging lines and signal lights.
• Placing the trailer brake controller dial in the centre console puts manual override controls right where the driver can easily reach them.
• Mounting the rearview monitor on the dashboard with a custom 3D-printed base gives a clear view behind the vehicle without blocking the driver’s view ahead.

Execution

Technicians at Adventure Additions completed two separate installations: one to upgrade the caravan’s interior controls and another for the tow vehicle’s electronics.

For the caravan’s interior control panel upgrade:

• Technicians disconnected the battery system before removing the outdated display unit and loose surrounding components.
• A custom-dimensioned steel mounting plate was fabricated and finished with a durable powder coat to host the new system configuration.
• The new central management screen was flush-mounted into the upper portion of the plate.
• Technicians systematically relocated the Webasto heater dial, the standalone tank monitor, the remote power switch, the secondary display unit, and the six-gang rocker switch assembly into the single custom panel face.

All backend wires were neatly bundled using protective trunking to reduce strain on the terminals.

For the main towing electronics installation in the vehicle:

• The main brake controller unit was installed behind the dashboard, and the remote control dial was mounted in the centre console for easy access.
• Technicians used a custom 3D-printed base to mount the rearview screen on top of the dashboard, with minimal changes to the vehicle.
• At the rear hitch, they replaced the old trailer connector with a heavy-duty metal 12-pin plug.
• Each wire was cleaned, crimped, wrapped in heat-resistant sheathing, and sealed to prevent water ingress.

Results

The completed project significantly upgrades both the campsite monitoring experience and road safety during transit. The new centralised caravan panel organises multiple scattered control faces into a single neat assembly, allowing the user to track battery percentages, tank levels, and appliance switches without confusion.

The changes to the tow vehicle make it safer by putting the brake controller switch in an easy-to-reach spot, giving a clear view behind with the new dashboard screen, and ensuring a strong, reliable power connection between the car and trailer.
