Mazda CX-9 Redarc Electric Brake Controller Installation

This Mazda CX-9 project centred on installing a Redarc electric brake controller to prepare the vehicle for towing a caravan. Adventure Additions fitted a Redarc Tow-Pro Elite and a supporting 50A Anderson plug circuit. The controller provides proportional braking for a connected trailer. The Anderson plug supplies power to the caravan, managed by a Narva Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) to protect the car’s main battery.

Adventure Additions performed the following installations:

• The central unit of the Tow-Pro Elite was mounted securely behind the dashboard.
• Its control dial was cleanly integrated into a vacant switch blank for a factory appearance.
• A Narva VSR was wired to manage the auxiliary power in the engine bay.
• Heavy-duty wiring was routed to a rear Anderson plug.
• Circuit breakers were installed for complete electrical safety.

The result is a competent and safe towing vehicle. The Redarc controller offers smooth trailer braking, improving on-road safety and driver confidence. The VSR-protected circuit provides reliable power to the caravan without risk to the vehicle’s primary electrical system. The entire installation is discreet and functions perfectly with the car.
