Challenge
It’s often hard to see clearly behind a large 4WD, especially when towing a heavy trailer or driving on narrow off-road tracks. Blind spots behind the rear window can hide low obstacles or other vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents. Standard mirrors usually don’t give enough depth or coverage for safe reversing in these situations.
Supplying power from your vehicle to a trailer or accessory can be tricky. Factory wiring often can’t handle high power needs. Without a strong connection, trailer batteries might not charge properly, and important gear like portable fridges could stop working on long trips.
Keeping the main battery separate from the auxiliary system is also important. If there’s no automatic way to do this, the main battery could run flat when the engine is off. This might leave you stranded in a remote area without enough power to start the vehicle.
Solution
The Safety Dave Rear Vision System is a great way to solve visibility problems. It swaps out or adds to the standard rearview mirror with a high-resolution monitor, giving the driver a clear, constant view behind the vehicle. This works even if cargo or a canopy blocks the rear window.
For managing power, the Grey 50A Anderson Plug is the go-to choice for high-current connections. It offers a strong, secure link that keeps power flowing steadily to trailers or caravans, even on rough roads.
The Narva 12V 140 Amp Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) provides the necessary automation for battery protection. It monitors the charging voltage and only allows power to flow to the auxiliary circuit once the starting battery is sufficiently charged.
Professional installation by experienced technicians is imperative to comply with Australian safety regulations. Expert fitting protects the vehicle’s electrical architecture from damage and ensures all accessories function within their intended specifications. Correct mounting and wiring by specialists also safeguards warranty coverage, providing long-term security for the investment.
Execution
At Adventure Additions, technicians start by fitting the Safety Dave monitor over the original rearview mirror, making sure it’s secure and tidy. They run the wiring through the car’s pillars and roof lining to avoid the curtain airbags. The rear camera is set up for the best view, and all cables are protected with tough conduit.
For the Anderson plug, technicians run heavy-duty 8BS battery cable from the engine bay to the back bumper. They use a custom bracket to hold the plug near the tow bar. Every connection is crimped and heat-shrunk to stop corrosion.
The Narva VSR is mounted in the engine bay using a standard bracket. Technicians integrate it into the primary charging circuit, ensuring the 140 Amp capacity matches the vehicle alternator output. Fuses are installed at both ends of the circuit to protect against short circuits.
Duration
The total installation time at the Adventure Additions Braeside Facility is approximately 5 and a half hours.
Results
The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series now has a full rear-vision system that removes blind spots. Its electrical setup can handle high-current towing, and an automatic relay keeps the starting battery safe from draining. All parts are installed with tough materials made for Australia’s harsh conditions.
