Rear-vision camera installation for commercial vehicles

S & R Equipment Hire depends on its Renault Master van to deliver portable air conditioning units. The van’s size and large Dhollandia tail lift created significant blind spots. To improve driver awareness and safety, a comprehensive camera system was necessary. The system includes a forward-facing camera for navigating tight spaces and a specialised rear camera. It provides a complete view of the vehicle, displayed on a monitor integrated into the rear-view mirror.

The main challenge was the vehicle’s heavy-duty loading ramp. The ramp requires a substantial clearance, so a standard camera installation wasn’t practical. Adventure Additions installed a low-profile camera above the rear licence plate. This placement ensures the camera does not impede the ramp’s operation. A second camera was discreetly fitted into the front grille. All wiring was carefully routed to the rear-view mirror monitor, preserving the cabin’s original look.

The installation gives the S & R Equipment Hire driver a clear view of the van’s front and rear and removes the guesswork when parking and manoeuvring. The driver can confidently position the vehicle, knowing the tail lift has enough room to operate safely. This custom solution improves on-site safety and protects the company’s vehicle assets.
