Product Summary:
The owner of a Ford Everest wanted to improve towing safety and low-speed manoeuvrability while towing a caravan. The objective was to gain the ability to view two separate camera angles from the caravan directly on the Ford Everest’s head unit. One view would provide a continuous feed for monitoring highway traffic, while the other would offer a wide-angle perspective for reversing and tight manoeuvres. This setup would eliminate blind spots and improve driver confidence when parking or navigating confined spaces.
Installation Process:
Adventure Additions installed a Safety Dave camera system featuring two cameras. The first camera, set at a 45-degree angle, delivers a standard rear view suitable for highway use. The second, a 120-degree wide-angle lens, offers a broad reversing view. Both cameras provide high-resolution images for clear visibility in various driving conditions.
To complete the system, Adventure Additions designed and installed a custom switch within the dashboard of the Ford Everest. This switch allows the driver to easily switch between the two camera views with a simple custom-engineered switch in the dash. The connection was integrated directly into the vehicle’s existing head unit, making the system intuitive and seamless to operate.
Results:
The dual camera setup transformed the towing experience. The driver can now monitor traffic behind the caravan while driving and switch to a wider view for reversing or parking. This improved situational awareness has made towing safer and less stressful. The dual camera installation not only removed blind spots but also improved visibility during critical manoeuvres. This setup supports more precise control of the caravan across different driving scenarios, including tight or low-speed conditions.
