Dodge Ram 1500 Ram Power Box Battery System

One of our customers approached us to fit out his new Ram 1500 with an electrical system to allow him to use the truck for short camping trips away from the caravan.

The power system The customer had in mind was to use the Ram Power Box on the side of the ute tray to house all the electrics and batteries for this system. Not shying away from this task, we took measurements and selected a 150AH slim-line battery from ATG that would fit into the box with millimetre precision.

Removing the box from the car to build the system externally allowed far better access when mounting all our components.

The biggest challenge of this build was creating a custom-made aluminium top panel that would cover the box and make a full plate to mount all our switches and screens.

This panel must also fit around the battery and hold it in place. Using the Enerdrive 2000w inverter with passthrough allowed us to adapt the ram’s factory’s 110v inverter socket into our new 240v power input, which enables the inverter to run without using the batteries when plugged into mains power.

Adding power sockets into the tray bed allows appliances to be used from different locations around the vehicle when camping. Additionally, we installed custom LED lights into the Ram box lid, adding lighting to the central control area for the system, ensuring ease of use at night.

This small and compact system packs a mighty punch allowing our client to camp for multiple days off the grid when away from base camp. With the ability to run induction cooktops, fridges and lighting from a well-hidden and integrated system tucked into the side of the vehicle, they couldn’t be happier.
