project details:

The Rhino 4×4 12,000-pound portable winch is a powerful recovery tool for 4WD applications. It aims to retrieve a stuck vehicle from challenging off-road situations, offering a 12,000lb pulling capacity for heavy-duty tasks. The winch is equipped with a lightweight synthetic rope, providing a safer and easier-to-handle alternative to traditional steel cable during recovery.

Rhino 4×4 12,000-pound Winch: Selected for its robust 6.0 HP series-wound motor and 12,000lb (5,443kg) pulling capacity, it provides more than enough power for heavy-duty recoveries. The choice of synthetic rope over steel cable offers significant advantages for a portable setup: it’s lighter, easier to handle, and safer in the event of a failure.

Portable Battery Box: A winch under load can draw over 400 amps, a massive demand that can strain a vehicle’s alternator and battery. The winch has its own power source by using a separate, dedicated battery in a portable box. This ensures consistent power delivery and isolates the vehicle’s primary electrical system from the extreme current draw.

175 Amp Anderson Plug: This large, heavy-duty connector is the heart of the system’s power delivery. It is rated to handle the high amperage required by the winch, providing a secure, low-resistance connection that can be connected and disconnected in seconds. One plug is fitted to the winch power leads, and the mating plug is supplied to the battery box.

50 Amp Anderson Plug: This smaller plug serves a critical secondary function: charging the portable battery box. A fused 50-amp connection is run from the vehicle’s main battery to a convenient location (e.g., the cargo area). This allows the battery box to be safely and efficiently recharged by the vehicle’s alternator while driving, ensuring the “Tow Pro” system is always ready.

5-Meter Anderson Extension Lead: Recovery situations are unpredictable, and the anchor point may not be near the vehicle. This 175-amp rated extension lead provides crucial flexibility, allowing the user to position the winch assembly safely and effectively, bridging the gap between the battery box and the winch itself.

The result is a self-contained recovery solution that delivers consistent power without straining the vehicle’s alternator or battery. This design provides the flexibility to handle unpredictable recovery scenarios where the anchor point may be distant. The dedicated charging connection ensures the system’s battery is recharged while driving, making the entire kit ready for immediate use when needed.
