This returning customer required a 5th-wheel towing setup for his Ford Ranger Wildtrack to accommodate a 5th-wheel caravan. We often work directly with RV manufacturers for pre-delivery towing preparations to ensure all the vehicle requirements are met. We worked with Trailblazers RV for all the wiring specs in this case.
The Trailblazer van comes with a Safety Dave camera, an Anderson plug for charging the caravan batteries, and a 12-pin plug, all of which need wiring in the Ford Ranger. In 5th-wheel caravans, all the electrical towing accessories need sockets in the vehicle’s tub. The Ford Ranger has a panel in the rear tub that is ideally suited to flush mount new accessories.
We flush-mounted the Safety Dave Woza connection kit into this panel and the 50A Anderson plug, wired through a VSR to isolate the van when the engine is off. The 12-pin plug required an additional plug to be installed into the tub to run in tandem with the rear plug in case he needed to tow a regular trailer.
5th Wheels offers a unique challenge for towing wiring, but this installation shows it can still be done cleanly and without intrusive drilling and mounting in the vehicle.
We also installed a bonnet-mounted antenna bracket on this vehicle. See Case Study >
